Scott Nichols
THE LANTERNS

I.
blue tails rings in generous
         aqueduct spinning
the sound of forgiveness
its echo
of genius apathy tailing lanterns

swung around my eyes and arms

II.
unforgiven soliloquy,
               when do you have
the echo's sense
that I have
                              the echo's sense
that leaves pry
            from their gravity
the repeating dull flower
                     in the slow aqueduct

III.
the guise of a lantern
                   shedding "immortality"
and "crown"
                      immediately
                                             the image of the sun
pulling a branch from a tree
                                 the velvet escaping
from a massive collision

                            the bridge escaping
from a sudden dam
a kiss escaping from a rose

the accident backing up into time
             the velvet and the kiss
                      passing over the burning bridge
                                                     as it collides
with the water: the river's repeating
repeating orgasm.
