Sunblocked
Autumn.
No more
sunbright
breezes.
Doors locked
windows hinged
shut.
Red windbreakers,
yellow umbrellas,
last season's mudspat galoshes.
Insects
underneath
sidewalk
in
soft soil.
Hibernating.
A gauzy gray
afternoon glow?
a transient
sea bisqued fog
answering to
sounding horns
ablow,
deep and hollowed.
Hours pass,
thick as
clouds
awaiting a
silent drizzle.
Leafless trees.
Pedestrians
and barometric pressures
under yellow umbrellas,
in last season's
mudspat galoshes,
wrapped in
red windbreakers.
Autumn
in
Los Angeles.
