The Wind Chimes
For my sister, Diana
Your face came to me
under the wind chimes
as I let rain fall
on wet leaves
not yet scattered by time.
It becomes you, that winter
smile, your eyes of warm grace
melting snow.
I’ve only seen snow
falling once
and it caused a farewell.
I wish the wind chimes
sang new songs
and the leaves never fell.
Untitled, in Spanish
For Mayra
Tus ojos verdes y gitanos.
Tus labios con la sangre
de Cristo.
Tu piel de luna blanca
que nadie toca.
Las lagrimas de ayer
que nunca me dan paz,
ni gracia,
ni un espejo
para ver tu alma
en mis manos
con raizes muertas.
Tus ojos verdes y gitanos.
