"Come to the writing club so your poems don't suck." — César Vélez

Who We Are   The Creative Writing Club was formed early in 1992 by a group of students dedicated to the written and spoken word. We recognized right away the need for a place for Cal State L.A. students to get together to share their writing and their ideas about writing, and we wanted to create an ongoing forum for students who would not necessarily feel comfortable in a traditional "classroom" setting. Our group is not affiliated with any campus department, and over the years our membership has grown to include people from all backgrounds and majors. We welcome anyone interested in creative writing.

What We Do & Where We Do It   The Creative Writing Club meets weekly to talk, read, listen and just hang out. Come as often as you wish, with or without work to share. The meetings take place at The San Gabriel Room, 4th Floor Student Union--Thursdays at 7:30 p.m. (more or less). We meet until 10:00 p.m., but you may arrive and leave when it is convenient for you. After the meeting, members of the group may choose to move down the hill for refreshment and informal conversation.

What Else   The Creative Writing Club publishes a quarterly newsletter of CSLA Students' creative work. It’s called the CWC Journal and shows up in Associated Students drop-boxes across campus. We host regular open readings/performances of creative writing at various locations on and off campus, and we have sponsored environmental clean ups in the community as well as a number of awesomely entertaining social functions, many of which have become legendary.

How You Can Join   The easiest way to join is to come to one of our meetings on Thursday night at the San Gabriel Room. Bring something to share, or just come to get to know us, relax and listen to others read. You may also contact the club via our mail box. It’s located in the Associated Students, Inc. offices in the Student Union, Room 422. If you want to annoy her, leave a message with the ASI secretary. Give us your name, any questions you may have, and a telephone number where we may contact you. You may also send email.

And why not join the CWC Discussion Group Online. It's the next best thing to really being there!
