How to Deceive Pain

Invite it
Entice it
With an open bleeding heart
Refuse comfort
Brush away wise words
With "yeah but, you just don't know"
Like a refrain
A tribute
To pain
Open your heart a gaping cocoon
Like legs spread in excruciating orgasm
Helpless to resist the pounding throb
Feel its total agony
You got to feel it for real
You can not pretend

Once pain is inside your heart
Where it thinks it has a haven
Conceptualize it into a poem
It will never know what hit it
Because even while you are writing
You are feeling
Maybe it will even grow worse
And as long as you are feeling
Pain will feel it is alive
Until you turn that poem into an instrument of love
Someone else's strength
And invincible forgiveness
Pain's worst enemy and dreaded bedfellow
It will never know what hit it
