A Rough Start

The alarm gave no sound.

The clock gave the wrong time.

The car would not start.

My friend was hard to find.

I jump in my friend’s car,

and proceed through traffic.

Not shocking,

nor surprising

how much the road has compacted.

My coffee spills.

My phone rings.

My boss screams,

and I haven’t done a thing.

Still I’m late.

It’s ten after eight.

What a heck of a way

to start a day.
