Bob DeNatale (director, performer) has been directing butoh performances under the rubric of Flesh & Blood Mystery Theater since 1993.
He was a featured artist and teacher at the Northwest Butoh Festival in Olympia, WA in 1998, and has directed solo or group performances in such venues as The Noh Space, 848 Community Space, The Marsh, Intersection for the Arts, Artists Television Access, and The Lab, as well as numerous underground venues. His teachers have included Akira Kasai, Hiroko Tamano, Yumiko Yoshioka, Setsuko Yamada, and Sara Shelton Mann.
He teaches Butoh in San Francisco and was Associate Producer of d-net's San Francisco Butoh Festival from 1997-9 9. In 1999, he appeared in the independent film, Oakland Underground, directed by Michael Goorjian. In August of 1999, he toured Germany and Poland as part of the Ex...it! '99 International Dance Festival. He was also a founding member of the music/performance group XSX and has performed with the butoh group Uro Teatre Koku, and with Vivisection, the Qube Chix, Wise Fool Puppet Intervention, and Idiot Flesh. He was lead singer of the art/noise group Kill the Messenger. He is also an accomplished percussionist and composer .
Lenny Gonzalez (composer) is a composer/multi-instrumentalist who as a solo artist works as Chango Feo. With Bob he was a founding member of the music/performance group XSX, and he has done soundscapes for Flesh & Blood Mystery Theater since 1995 . He has collaborated with numerous butoh artists and performed at the 1998 San Francisco Butoh Festival with Tokyo butoh artist Abe "M"Aria.
