Kazuo Ohno, one of the founders of Butoh, passed away June 1, 2010 at the age of 103. The world lost a great man and a great light to dancers and performers around the world.
I saw him do three performances at the Japan Center here in NYC in 1999, and I still think back often about those shows, about the beauty and the generosity of his spirit, and how just being there enriched my life.
May we all be blessed with as full and rewarding a life as his was.
You can read the NY Times obituary for him here.
