-Monday, August 29th: All-Star righthander Jared Wells
has been named the 2005 California League Pitcher of the Year. Wells, currently 2-5 with the Baybears,
was 111-3 with a then league-leading 3.44 ERA. In 19 starts for Lake Elsinore, Wells struck out 80 while walking only 26
batters in over 120 innings of work. The 23-year-old was selected in the 31st round of the 2002 First-Year Player Draft by
the San Diego Padres out of San Jacinto Junior College in Houston. He is the first Storm pitcher since 1995 to win the award.
-Thursday, August 25th: Cesar Carrillo was brought back
to the Storm after going 4-0 with a 3.23ERA for Mobile. The Padres want to ease his work load while also beefing up the Storm
rotation for the Cal League playoffs.
-Friday, August 5th: Howie Pence underwent an emergency appendectomy in the San Jose area hospital on Thursday and will be likely lost for the remaining
4 weeks of the season.
-Sunday, July 31st: Catcher George Kottaras was promoted to Double-A Mobile
(Ala.); pitcher Javier Martinez, who has been on the disabled list with a sore right arm, was sent to extended spring training
to begin a rehab assignment; and outfielder Tim Turner, who joined the team last week, was sent to back to Peoria.
-Saturday,
July 30th: OF Adam Bourassa, who had been hitting well since joining the Storm after being by the Rangers' organization broke
his arm in several places after crashing into the concrete OF wall. He is done for the season, and will not even be healthy
for the Storm's first playoff gane on Sept. 10. Further X-Rays will be needed to map out a definitive return date. Colt Morton
was promoted from Fort Wayne to take his roster spot.
-Saturday, July 9th:
The
Padres have claimed RHP Luis Mendoza off waivers from BOS and assigned him to Lake Elsinore. He has not been activated yet, but will join the starting rotation
next week when he is activated.
-Wednesday, June 22nd: Because of the recent promotions
of Paul Abraham, Steve Baker and Brian Burgamy, Storm
catcher George Kottaras and pitcher Jared Wells were added to California League's roster for Cal League-Carolina League All-Star
Game to be played in Frederick, Md., June 28.
-Monday, June 20th: OF Steve Baker was promoted
to AA-Mobile. He was given the option to wait 2 more weeks before being promoted so he could participate in the Cal-League
All Star game, but he instead chose to accept his promotion now. Nobody replaced him on the roster.
-Friday, June 10th: Storm INF Juan Ciriaco, OF
Steve Baker and reliever Paul Abraham have all been named to the 2005 Cal-League All-Star squad. They will face the Carolina
League all-star team on June 28th at Harry Grove Stadium in Frederick, Maryland. This is the 9th
All-Star classic between the two leagues. The series is tied 3-3, with a pair of ties. Last year's game was held at Inland
Empire.
-Friday, June 3rd: The Storm placed Matt Thayer
on the DL with a groin injury and signed Adam Bourassa, who was released from the Rangers' organizaion on May 23rd. He
had been playing with the Cal-League rival Bakersfield.
-Wednesday, May 25th: The Storm have added OF
Craig Johnson and P Alfredo Fernandez from extended ST. Also, Michael Johnson underwent successful surgery on his hamate bone.
-20th: Michael Johnson continues to be beleaguered
by injuries. He has now missed significant development time because of his injuries in each of his 3 pro seasons. Johnson will have surgery Tuesday to remove the hook of the hamate, a small
bone near the base of his right palm. He is expected to be out three to six weeks. The DL stint will be his second of the
year. The Storm have yet to announce who will replace him on the roster.
-9th- Khalil Greene was sent back to San Diego
and the Storm added Ryan Trytten from Fort Wayne. Trytten struck out the side in his Storm debut and extended a scoreless
IP streak to 11 innings. He has also struck out 9 in his last 4 2/3IP in A-ball. “Not a bad night,”
Trytten said after the game, barely containing his smile. “It was pretty cool. It was kind of a shock. I was hoping
to get up before my birthday and it happened a day before.”
-4th: Steve Baker could come off the DL as early
as today.
-3rd:
Khalil
Greene begins his rehab stint with the Storm. Depending on how he feels, he could be activated from the DL on Thursday
or Monday.
-24th:
Steve
Baker was placed on the DL and Matt Thayer (at right) was added to the roster from extended spring training.
-24th:
The Padres released INF Kervin Jacobo on Friday. He was eligible to be activated from the restricted list on
Saturday after finishing up his 15-day suspension for violationg MLB-Minor League Baseball joint drug testing program. The
Padres said his failed test was his forth in his career and the team would not tolerate that, leading to his release. Two
of the failed tests were when he was with the D-Backs organization.
-20th:
Fernando Valenzuela went 2-for-3 with a homer and two RBI’s on Wednesday. He now has five RBI’s and two homers
in his last four games. Valenzuela also has seven multi-hit contests in his first 13 games with the Storm. The first baseman/designated
hitter has been hit by four pitches this year.
-17th:
