News and Notes:
-Monday, August 15: Wilson Valdez was promoted to the bigs. In other news, Chris
Oxspring was named PCL pitcher of the week. Oxspring, 28, threw a complete-game
shutout in the first game of Saturday’s doubleheader against Colorado Springs and was 2-0 with a 0.69 ERA in his two
starts last week. The right-hander allowed just one run over 13 innings and struck out seven during the seven-day period.
-Tuesday, August 2nd: Brian Falkenborg released.
-Tuesday, July 26th: Sean
Burroughs was added to the active roster, along with Brian Whitaker, who was promoted from AAA. The Padres also signed LHP
Ryan Snare to a minor league deal and assigned him to Portland. He was released by Texas' AAA club last week. The Padres,
meanwhile, released C Lee Evans.
-Monday, July 25th: Scott Stewart released.
-Thursday, June 30th:
JJ Furmaniak was added to the PCL All-Star squad. Also, Brad Baker, who was selected to the squad, has said he will not attend
and will instead spend the break with his ailing grandfather.
-Thursday, June 23rd:
CL Brad Baker was elected to the 2005 PCL All-Star team and SP Clay Hensley was selected to the squad. The 18th Annual AAA
All-Star game between the IL and PCL will be played on July 13th at Sacaramento's Raley Field. The 2005 Triple-A
All-Star Game will be televised live on ESPN2 . The Pacific Coast League All-Star team is made
up of at least one player from every club being selected by club field personnel, media representatives, and League administrators.
-Monday, June 20th: Tagg Bozied was placed on the 7-day DL
due to a lower back strain. Bozied was at Scripps Clinic in La Jolla on this morning to be checked out by Padres' doctors.
He could be activated in a couple weeks. To replace him on the roster, OF Dustin Delucchi (no relation to David Dellucci)
was promoted from AA to AAA. He had been released by AAA-Tacoma in May and then immediately signed by San Diego and assigned
to Mobile. Delucchi
appeared in 34 games with Mobile, batting .280 with no home runs and four stolen bases.
-Wednesday, June 15th: Prior to a 14-inning marathon loss,
the Bevos granted Kerry Robinson his release. He exercised an opt-out clause in his contract, that allowed him to declare
for free agency, if not added to the Major League roster by June 15th.
- Friday, June 10th: In a span of 3 days, the Beavers have traded for Wilson Valdez in exchange for relievers R.D.
Spiehs and Mike Bumstead; released INF Ben Risnger (pictured), who became expendable when C Lee Evans was signed; signed
LHP Scott Stewart; added reliever Brian Falkenborg to the active roster; demoted Angel Tovar to AA; and have added Miguel
Asencio the roster.
-Friday, June 3rd: The
Bevos released INF Troy Cameron, who was 1 for 4 in a short stint with the team after being promoted from Mobile. Saturday,
the Padres will sign catcher Lee Evans to a minor league deal and assign him to Portland. Evans was released by Boston in
early April.
-Sunday, May 29: The Beavers added Tagg Bozied to the active
roster for the first time since he injured his knee in a HR celebration last season. To make room on the roster for him, Joe
Gerber, hitting under the Mendoza Line, was demoted to Mobile.
-Wednesday, May 25th: The team has released veteran reliever Joe Dawley. As a result, the Beavers added Jack Cassel from Mobile and will
add another player on Thursday to replace Brian Falkenborg--who was promoted to San Diego on Tuesday--on the roster.
-19th: The
Beavers have acquired LHP Jason Kershner from the Red Sox AAA-team (PawSox) in exchange for future considerations. This will
be Kershner's second stint with the Beavers. He reached the majors with the Padres in 2002 after being claimed off waivers
from Toronto.
-14th: With 2 steals in a Saturday night loss to Round Rock,
Kerry Robinson now leads the PCL with 21 steals and is one steal behind overall minor league leader Alex Requena of A-Augutsa.
-10th: Roger Deago was promoted to Portland from Mobile to
replace Tim Stauffer in their rotation.
-9th: Tim Stauffer and Brian Falkenborg were purchased by
San Diego, while Jesse Garcia was outrighted to Portland. The moves leave Portland two players under the roster limit.
-6th: Adam Hyzdu was outrighted to AAA and added to the Bevo's
roster. The Bevos still have one spot open on the roster.
-4th: To replace Robert Fick on the roster, Troy Cameron was
promoted to Mobile and to replace Randy Williams, R.D. Spiehs was promoted from Mobile. But, the Beavers remain two under
the roster limit because of the promotion of Damian Jackson, as well as Danny Patterson being placed on the DL.
-May 2nd: Seth McCauley, on the DL, is in San Diego for further
evaluation of his injured right elbow. The Bevos have yet to annouce who will replace Robert Fick on their roster.
-May 2nd: The Bevos now sit at 11-11 after losing 5 out of
their last 7. Tagg Bozied is expected to be activated from the DL in about 10 days after finally completeing the rehab of
his knee after the "HR celebration incident" last season. Out of Justin Germano, Tim Stauffer, Damian Jackson, JJ Furmaniak,
Robert Fick and Josh Barfield, two or three could possibly promoted to the Padres during this week.
-26th: The Bevos released veteran knuckleballer Steve Sparks to give the
opportunity to sign with another team, where he would have a chance to make the Major League roster. Sparks was 2-0 with a
2.04ERA in 17 2/3 innings during 3 starts. Mike Bumstead was promoted to AAA from Mobile to take his roster spot.
-21st: Robert Fick smacked two homers to lead the Beavers
to a 5-4 win. The Bevos also placed rookie catcher Seth McCauley on the DL. Chris
Oxspring (1-1) turned in his best start of the year, allowing two runs (1 earned) on five hits in 6.0 innings of work for
the win.

win their 5th straight and their second in a row on an extra-inning victory
-17th- Rain
suspended play after 7 innings. The final 2 innings will be played on Monday.
-15th: The Bevos won their home opener 7-2 over the RiverCats

the Beavers, Kerry Robinson stole 3 bases in a game. Robinson is acting as the starting CF until Freddy Guzman comes off the
Major League DL.

Beavers finally find a new owner, as the PCL, who owned the team for a year on an interim-emergency basis, sold the team to
the Portland Baseball Investment Group led by Abe Alizadeh and Jack Cain.
