Berkshire County Educational Associates (BCEA) is dedicated to assisting families in their pursuit of protecting their children's rights and obtaining appropriate educational services through the public school system. BCEA helps parents negotiate with their school district and understand their children's rights under federal and state law.   To accomplish this purpose, the goals and objectives of the organization are:


To ensure that children in Western Massachusetts receive an appropriate education to meet their unique needs


To provide free advocacy services under the IDEA 2004, including:


Negotiating with school district

Conducting classroom observations

Reviewing educational records and evaluations

Attending Individualized Education Plan (IEP) meetings

Recommending appropriate IEP goals and placements

Identifying violations of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act

Working with families navigating due process and compliance procedures

Attending mediation proceedings

Attending due process hearings

Suggesting strategies that might be helpful in moving the child toward the educational services, programs, and placement that he/she needs

Assisting parents with concerns pertaining to the evaluation/assessment process

Following up with the school to ensure compliance
