Back to BBC Missions Connection

In August, 2006 Bloomington Baptist Church sent Pastor Randy, Larry, Bob and Emily to Amazonia.  They were joined by three members of three other congregations, Carl, Matthew and Rachael, to work with two congregations in Santarem:  Koynonia Baptist Church (Igreja Batista Koynonia) and Esperanca Baptist Church (Igreja Batista Esperanca).

After a hard weeks work at Koynonia, building a much need block wall around the church, we headed for the island of Patacho and Marimarituba.  We worked with several members of the Esperanca congregation to lay the foundation for the new building.

In August 2006 God sent another team from BBC
to join our brothers and sisters to deliever the
funds and begin the work of the new building.
We worshiped, we fellowshiped, we prayed and we worked.
"To God be the glory. Great things He has done."

After a four hour trip up river, our boat deliever us safely to the remote island of Patacho, and the village of Marimarituba Costa.  The greatest work was to glorify God by obeying Him in preaching His Word, seeking to be obedient to the Great Commission.

We worshiped with 98 islanders under the trees of Marimarituba.

When the Amazon River's water level allowed, materials were loaded on boats and delievered to Marimarituba for the building of the new Ministry/Health Center.  Members and friends of Bloomington Baptist Church in Indiana, and Esperanca Baptist Church in Santarem, Brazil were blessed to be conduits of blessing as God did His great work in these ends of the earth.

During that year funds for the work were delivered.  Even though the building had not begun, worship took place on the property as 98 islanders joined together under the trees to sing and worship God.  With the help of a generator and sound system provided by supporters of the project we prayed, sang and preached God's Word into the night.

Lumber had to be bought, loaded on a boat and shipped to the island.
