Allen Wong’s Eagle Project

When: April 3rd and  4th,  2018, from 9:00 am to  4:00 pm.   ( Tuesday  and  Wednesday )

              Also on   April  6th  From 9:00 am to  9:30 pm.  ( Friday )


Where: 20 West Commonwealth Ave, Alhambra, CA 91801     gmap

Alhambra True Light Presbyterian Church. There will be a parking lot with signs at the side door entrance of the church. The entrance will be located on the left if you are heading west on Commonwealth.


Project: We will clean, prep, and paint over a dirty and old cement staircase at Alhambra

True Light Presbyterian Church. There will be five flights of stairs in addition to two platforms in between flights. There are 50 stairs total each about 5 feet long.


Clothes and Supplies: Clothes that you can wear actively and get paint on. If you own

An Industrial/Shop Vacuum, or Industrial paint brushes and rollers please let me know ASAP. We would love to borrow it even if you are not going to the project. Also bring your own RAG to the Project.


Food: snacks and lunch will be provided for example, BOBA, and ROOT BEER FLOATS.

This Project fulfills requirements of the Painting Merit Badge (Back Pageè )

Painting Merit Badge Requirements:

(Bolded is what we will cover at the project)

  1. Explain the proper safety procedures to follow when preparing surfaces and applying coatings.
  2. Do the following:
  3. a. Explain three ways that coatings can improve a surface.

    b. Explain the differences between oil-based paints, Acrylic-based paints, and water-based paints.

    c. Explain where you would apply enamel paint, flat paint, wood stain, and varnish, and explain the importance of sheen.

    d. Tell why each is best for these uses.

  4. Prepare and paint two different surfaces
  5. using patching material, caulking, and the proper primers and topcoats. Suggested projects include an interior or exterior wall, a door, a piece of furniture, a concrete wall or floor, a porch rail, or a fence. Your counselor must preapprove the projects.
  6. Prepare and paint an item using harmonizing colors that you have selected using the color wheel in this book.
  7. Show the right way to use, clean, maintain, and store painting equipment.
  8. Explain the importance of ladder safety, environmental responsibility, and personal hygiene when painting.
  9. Explain some of the environmental and health issues concerning removing paint, applying paint, and discarding old paint.
  10. Find out about career opportunities in the paint industry. Discuss the training and experience required, and explain why this profession might interest you.
