What: A “10 Commandments hike” helps highlight the importance of Reverence and Honor to God and respect for the beliefs of others.
“A Scout is reverent. A Scout is reverent towards God. He is Faithful in his religious duties. He respects the beliefs of others” (Boy Scout Handbook)
“On my honor, I will try to serve God….."(Girl Scout Promise)
The Hike is about 5.2 miles long. Scouts (Boy & Girl) with their leaders and families will hike to 8* different Churches or Faith Centers. At each location, a member of the clergy or congregation will speak on one of the Ten Commandments and will also provide a brief history and/or background of their faith. We anticipate media coverage. * Two Churches will share their sanctuary with another faith that does not a Faith Center in Covina.
The 2012 Ten Commandments Hike XIII will begin at 8:00 a.m. (7:15 am for on-site registration) at St. John Coptic Orthodox Church 21329 Cienga Ave. @ Valley Center in Covina. Drivers are advised that after dropping off their Scouts and Adult Supervision, they may drive directly to the Covina United Methodist Church, 437 W. San Bernadino Rd. at Hollenbeck Ave., the last church by following directions for parking. Then a shuttle will be provided to return the drivers to the starting point.
