PLEDGE OF ABSTINENCE

PLEDGE OF ABSTINENCE
(until the troops get back.)

There are many ways to support the troops. One way is to contact your local representatives and ask them to increase funding for veteran’s benefits and vote for those who will.

Here’s another way. Let US troops sent to the Middle East know you’ve given up something you enjoy, such as a favorite drink or food or pastime, until they come home.

The Pledge of Abstinence (www.poab.org) is a simple gesture that lets the troops know that as long as they’re gone it’s not business as usual for you and that you will be thinking of them until they get back. Let them know you're doing more than talking about the war or watching it on TV.

Patriotism has many forms in thought and action. The POA is not meant as a test of patriotism. Only the troops know what it is like to be where they are and do what they are doing.

The POA uses a petition format to register your pledge and display it on the internet for the troops to see.

Examples:
I won’t eat chocolate again until the troops come back.
I pledge to stop drinking alcohol (or soda, etc.) until the troops come home.
I'm going to watch less TV (or no TV) until the troops get back so I'll have more time to convince my senators to increase funding for veteran's benefits.
I promise not to talk back to my mom again until the troops return.
