Outings

Without the OUTING, the word SCOUTING is missing a great deal.  In Troop 777, outings are a monthly part of our program and sometimes we go more often.

Every year in October, our boy leaders plan the following years activities.  The planning is a learning process in itself.  So the boys get the benefit of learning to plan and choosing the places they want to go.

Most outings are held on weekends but at least twice a year the troop will have a week-long activity.  The first week activity in the year is our Easter week trip.  We usually go to a significant place such as the Grand Canyon, Zion National Park, California Gold Country or maybe a canoe trip down the Colorado River.  The second week activity is Summer Camp.  Summer Camp is a week at a scout camp where the Scouts have fun and work on rank advancement.  Every second or third year we will also add a third week-long activity and that will be a week of hiking in the Sierras.

Our major activities along with our monthly outings can be seen on our Troop Outings & Activities page.

Leadership

I know of no other program where a boy can learn and practice being a leader more than in the Boy Scouts.  In Troop 777, when a Scout is elected or appointed to be a leader, he attends the Troop Junior Leader Training.  The training coordinated by the Scoutmaster teaches him what is expected of his position and thus he is likely to succeed.  Elections and the corresponding training occur twice a year.

In addition to Troop Junior Leader Training, Old Baldy Council conducts a week-long Junior Leader Training Conference called Buckskin for older Scouts who have reach the rank of First Class.  In Troop 777, this advanced leadership training is required for our Senior Patrol Leader, the Boy Scout elected to run the troop for six months.

Boys are not the only ones who receive training.  Troop 777 requires that the Scoutmaster and Assistant Scoutmasters be trained.  Adult leader training keeps us focused on running a good troop.  Read more about Troop 777 and Adult Leaders.

Court of Honor

Four times a year our troop recognizes the scouts for their achievements over the past quarter.  These recognitions are called the Court of Honor.  It important that all boys and their parents attend.  Most scouts will be receiving one or more awards.  Parent's support is important for both their son and the troop.  The Court of Honor's that are now planned are:

March 23, 2004 at troop meeting
June 22, 2004 at troop meeting
   Sept. 19, 2004 on Sunday
         with a pot-luck dinner
Dec. 14, 2004 at troop meeting

Plan to attend.

Parent's Meeting

With our many activities and outings, there are numerous details to work out and much support that will be needed.  If any parents would like to know more about what is planned or how you can contribute, please attend our monthly parents meeting at Northminster Presbyterian Church on the last Tuesday of every month at 7:00 p.m.

Keep informed!

Newsletter

Often we wonder how our boys can get on the advancement trail!  Without question, the scouts who do better are the ones whose parents stay involved with their son.  The easiest way is simply to read the monthly newsletter and/or attend the monthly parent's meeting.  The newsletter keeps everyone informed of the many activities that can help our boys in leadership, advancement, and fun times.  The parent's meeting discusses in detail the monthly activities.
