Weavers' page

The Weavers Study Group has decided to reinstitute an old idea that was once popular. Individual members will invite the group to their homes and/or studios to see their looms, watch a demonstration and try their hands at the current project. The plan is to have Loom Tours four times during the year. A tentative schedule follows, but two more volunteers are needed. No formal program is needed. Just be prepared to tell us about whatever project is on your loom at the time and maybe make a little sample space on the warp so we can give it a try. E-mail for directions and to RSVP.

See our poster for information on the monthly Small Looms Group at the Pemberton Library.

Tapestry Study Group

Betsy Snope and Rita Landau teach a tapestry class every Tuesday from 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. The group meets either in Medford Leas or Cherry Hill in their respective homes. Beginners are welcome, as well as those who have had tapestry weaving experience. The looms that are used are very simple and inexpensive to make and there is very little initial outlay for supplies. During the course of the classes Betsy and Rita teach how to warp the loom, practice basic techniques and discussion of design and material issues. Profile Drafting Block Design Workshop
The Guild hosts a workshop by Bettes Silver-Schack at Medford Leas from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. with a break for lunch (please bring your lunch).

This workshop is intended to help you understand the enormous potential for designing with block diagram designs. We will quickly review the rules of thread by thread drafting and then move to an analysis of block designs. By the end you will be able to design patterns from your profile threadings, generate designs in either the drawdown area or from the tie-down area, and understand how to substitute thread by thread notations for those designs. We will also do a case study of Rep Weave designs during which you will see how a simple 4 block design can generate up to 8 blocks of color.

Our work will be done with pencil and paper. Please bring paper scissors and either a glue stick or some scotch tape. Cost $25. An additional fee of $3 is payable to instructor at the workshop for handouts.

Note: Deadline for signing up is August 28.
Send your $25 check to Rita Landau at
