We had such a good time at our warp painting workshop with Suzie Jenkins that we all wanted to learn more about dyeing our yarn. Suzie has offered to chair a Dyeing Study Group that would meet in her barn during the warm weather months. She has an exciting lesson schedule lined out and would like to get the ball rolling (or dyepot boiling) starting Saturday June 20. We could start at 10 am and work until we’ve finished our projects. Thanks to April for the photos.

The first subject in Suzie’s suggested curriculum is an introductory lesson in basic fiber dyeing. We’ll learn about different types of dyes, dye safety, how to mix and store dyes, how to prepare the fiber for dyeing and then we would experiment with some immersion dyeing of wool, alpaca, silk or other protein fibers. We’ll also discuss schedules and other plans for the study group. If you think you might be interested in joining the Dye Study Group on a continuing or occasional basis, please contact Suzie Jenkins. She will give you specific directions on what to bring and can help you if you’re unsure about how to skein the yarn.
