Food and Fitness at the Bash

Food at the Bash

Every effort is being made to ensure that food available at the Bash weekend will be nutritious and band-friendly. We are planning to stock our Hospitality Suite with snacks, beverages, and bottled water.

Speaking of water, Tijuana is served by the same reservoir as San Diego so the water is pretty safe for drinking. Bottled water is always available at the hotel and at stores and concessions around the city.

Daily Breakfast and Lunch

Breakfast is not a coordinated activity, but for convenience, we're scheduling a daily time period so that people can plan to meet and eat together. There should be variety of food in the Hospitality Suite so you can enjoy a continental breakfast.

Last year, some of us brought our own protien powder, selected milk and fruit from the hotel restaurant buffet, and had the server mix it for us in the blender. If we can get some blenders for the suite, you'll be able to make your own smoothies.

If you want a more robust breakfast, you can visit the hotel dining room and purchase the buffet which is excellent. If you plan on being at the hotel around lunchtime, they serve entrees and sandwiches. We'll reserve one table in the Plaza Cafe restaurant for breakfast and lunch that will have a 'meet here' sign for those wishing to enjoy meals together.

Of course, if some folks want to enjoy a private meal together, feel free to sit at any non-reserved table.

Hotel Restaurants

The hotel has three restaurants. The Plaza Cafe boasts a breakfast buffet from 7 am to 12:30 pm and serves dinner from 6-11 pm. On Sunday, they serve a Champagne Brunch with live music between 8am-4 pm.

Las Torres Restaurant serves lunch and dinner from Noon to 7PM.

Local Restaurants

Check back later to see this section. We'll be posting a list of recommended restaurants near the Hotel and downtown.

If you want some package goods, there's a small market across from the hotel.

Fitness Activities at the Bash

Vacations are a time of relaxation and the Bash is definitely a vacation. But there's no need to abandon your fitness program just because you're in Mexico. We have daily activities planned for willing participants and we guarantee you will enjoy the group dynamics. We've scheduled the activities so they don't overlap; that way, you can try them all.

Below is a description of what you can expect during your Bash weekend.

Daily Morning Walks

On Friday, Sunday, and Monday mornings, participants will meet at the "Meet Here" sign in the lobby at 8am for a 30-minute walk around the neighborhood. We'll change routes every day. The neighborhood is kind of ordinary, but the company will be extraordinary—so prepare to enjoy the walk. Pack some comfy shoes.

Saturday Morning Fun Run/Walk in the Park

Come out on Saturday morning for a great time at a park where the locals get their exercise. This will be our 2nd Annual Bandster Bash Fun Run/Walk. It is open to anyone and is an incredible opportunity to get some exercise and make a few new friends. You'll be free to go at your own pace around a large running track. Expect to walk between 2k-5K during the time we're there and if you're new to this and get tired, you can sit down and rest and catch up when folks make the next round. No matter what your distance or speed, we'll love you anyway for your willingness and courage to try.

Coordinator Jen Runyan says: "This is a great event to showcase what the band has done for us. Three years ago, I never would have considered participating in an event like this! This is what the banding journey is all about—life change!"

The Run/Walk participants will meet at the "Meet Here" sign in the lobby and pool the costs of transportation over to the park. Jen will provide directions and support.

Hatha Yoga

Whatever your current weight—whatever your Fitness Level—come YOGA together with friends! Take this safe and supportive opportunity to stretch those tight travel muscles! You can expect to learn some basic yoga postures and participate in a path that can yield health and mental benefits. Begin the journey of a thousand miles by taking the first step to feeling better, being stronger, and becoming more healthy.

Hatha Yoga is the art of exercising one’s mind and body to achieve harmony and enlightenment. The class is presented by Yogini Camille Worthington, a Registered Yoga Teacher (and Bandster). Camille is trained in Classical (Indra Devi) Style Yoga and has been teaching yoga for over 7 years at home and in spas around San Diego county. Her style is nurturing—with classes adapted for all body types and fitness levels.

Please wear loose, comfortable clothing and bring a room towel. We will be sitting on the floor. Yoga is offered several mornings during the Bash; consult the official schedule for times and location.

Water Aerobics

If you've never tried water aerobics, it's lots of fun and great exercise. Water aerobics has many benefits. One benefit is that water aerobics allows you to exercise every muscle and every joint in your body all at the same time. Another benefit is that water aerobics are cooler as the water cools off your body the entire time you are performing your routine. This is definitely a plus factor, especially in the summertime heat, or if you live in a part of the country that is hotter than other areas. The last and probably most important benefit of water aerobics is that almost anyone, regardless of age, can perform water aerobics because the water causes your body to be buoyant, causing less strain and stress on your joints and muscles. Don't worry, though; you still get the maximum workout when you perform water aerobics.

You don't need to know how to swim in order to take advantage of water aerobic exercises either. You can wear one of many devices that will enable you to stay afloat with little effort.

Water aerobics are generally performed in water up to your waist or maybe even up to your chest, depending on the specific exercise you are doing. Jogging in the water, for example, is done in deeper water so that your body stays completely emerged.

Consult the official schedule for actual session times. Come on out and join the fun and get some exercise as well!
