Lake
Fundraiser Goes to the Dogs
The
warm morning sunshine and cool breeze were just
right for some 400 participants who laced up their
sneakers and leashed up their canine pals for
the Society's seventh annual "High Tail it
Around the Lake" K9 walk for healthy pets.
The stroll around the lake at Rancho Santa Margarita,
held on Saturday, April 26, brought in better
than $12,500 for the Society's emergency and non-emergency
medical aid programs that benefit sick and injured
pets.
Disc
Dogs in Southern California wowed the crowd with
their expertly choreographed Frisbee demonstrations.
Laurie Zurborg, owner of Wags & Wiggles Dog
Daycare in RSM, and her colleagues put their Australian
Shepherds dogs and other breeds through their
paces in a specially designed agility course.
It
was good news for four adorable mix-breed puppies
who found new homes at the event, placed by Orange
County Animal Care Services; and area rescue groups
New Beginnings for Animals, Modjeska Ranch Rescue,
Aussie Rescue and Collie Rescue showcased their
adult dogs available for adoption.
Sponsors
donated contest and opportunity drawing prizes.
A representative from presenting sponsor Banfield
Pet Hospital in Aliso Viejo was available to discuss
pet care, and other sponsors supplied free product
samples and literature. It was a tail wagging
good time for all as participants went home with
an event T-shirt and doggie bandana, plus a goodie
bag full of super stuff for themselves and their
canine friends.
"High
Tail it Around the Lake" is held each spring.
If you missed it this year, mark your calendar
now and look for announcements of next year's
event. Santa Paws, the Society's next fundraiser
will be held in early December. Have your pet's
photo taken with Santa at his workshop at the
corner of La Paz and Chrisanta in Mission Viejo.

Zurborg, owner of Wags and Wiggles Doggie Day Care
and an event sponsor - also works with Aussie Rescue
- she's with Stubby (right) a 5-month old rescue
whose family brought him to the vet to be euthanized
when he nipped (hearded) their 4-year-old. This
was his first outing and doing well; he's very shy.
