Welcome to the Whetstone Community web site.

The residents of Whetstone have gathered together to help shape the future of our community...

Comment May 21, 2008:  "I would seriously like to know what is the hold-up concerning making Whetstone a better place to live. With fuel quickly approaching $4 bucks a gallon, I'm tired of driving all the way into Sierra Vista if I need something. This has been going on for what 4 years now? All I would like is to have a real grocery store close by, a real bank, our own Post Office, a school or two, a Sheriff sub station, a doctors office or clinic, a park, a decent place to eat. I'm sorry but Big Mo's in Huachuca City doesn't cut it for me. Why is our water being taken and being pumped out to Sonoita? Lets get it together! The longer this takes it seems the more trailers, er I mean manufactured homes are wheeled into place out here, Whetstone will soon become "Trailer City" if this "committee" doesn't get on the ball.

Response May 24, 2008:   First, the committee, ...not sure if you participated on the volunteer committee, has nothing to do with bringing in business to Whetstone, that is purely based on money, population and the willingness of residents to support those types of businesses in Whetstone. Which apparently there is not enough or the business would flock here if they thought there was profit to be made in this community. The committee is no longer active as the support of the community did not show up at the PNZ meeting and large property owners were the loudest to speak against the plan, the plan was voted down many months ago, in the results were in the newspaper, so the 4 years work is null and void.
Your next step if you want businesses in the area is to start a petition to incorporate and make this area a real city, maybe then the city council or the mayor of Whetstone (would you be interested in being mayor) could solicit businesses to set up in Whetstone.

Comment Mar 30, 2008: Has anyone in the group looked into Whetstone water being pumped for a Rain Valley, Cochise/Santa Cruz County development?  If not lets look into it....

Web site update May 26, 2008:  One meeting was held at the Caverns RV resort several weeks ago, with a resultant petition.  It is unclear if the owners of the well have actually filed for any permits.
