At the 2006 JHS Reunion in Washington, DC, the assembled alumni voted to have the next reunion in Memphis, TN in 2009. I am very honored to be able to host this reunion for you and will do my best to make it an enjoyable event for everyone!

I am hoping to hold the reunion in April of 2009 as springtime in Memphis is pretty with all the dogwoods, cherry trees and magnolias starting to bloom. The weather is also nice at this time of year where we can have warm days and cool nights. It can also rain in April, but seems to hold off until May when the annual "Memphis In May" festivities begin!

Not only is Memphis Home of the Blues/Birthplace of Rock'n'Roll, but many well-known stars from Elvis, Otis Redding, Johnny Cash and Isaac Hayes to Jerry Lee Lewis, B.B. King, Al Green and a host of others have started their careers here in Memphis. Some got their start at Sun Studios while others at Stax. 24 of the 97 stars featured in the Rock 'n Roll Hall of Fame are from within a 100-mile radius of Memphis.

A little bit of trivia - did you know that Volney trained the lion who roared at the beginning of all the old MGM movies? The lion lived at the Memphis Zoo until his death in 1944. There have been 10 movies filmed in Memphis. Some Memphis celebrities include actress Kathy Bates, Cybill Shepherd, Michael Jeter, Tim McCarver. Other current or former area residents include: Dixie Carter, Rick Dees, Wink Martindale, Peter Taylor, Morgan Freeman, George Hamilton, Aretha Franklin, Pat Kerr Tigrett, Dana Buchman and Shelby Foote.

There is a lot to see and do in Memphis. I am still in the process of working out the details for the reunion and hope very soon to be able to post the information. I know everyone is wondering if there is going to be another reunion! Please check back often to see updates as they are posted.
