About The Association for Women in Communications:

The Association for Women in Communications (www.womcom.org), founded in 1909 as Theta Sigma Phi, is a nonprofit organization of more than 7500 members dedicated to advancing women across all

communications disciplines; emphasizing excellence, leadership, and growth; and providing strong support for emerging communications technologies, media and career paths. The association has members in more than 100 professional and student chapters around the world and a strong network of independent members.

The Loudoun/Western Fairfax chapter (http://home.earthlink.net/~awc_loudoun) serves professional women who live or work in Loudoun County or on the western side of Fairfax County. Their employers encompass corporations and small businesses that leverage print, broadcast, and electronic communications media as either a primary or secondary product. Disciplines include journalism, online media, cinematography, videography, graphic arts, broadcasting, print publications; public relations, marketing and advertising.

AWC-Loudoun/Western Fairfax was founded by members of the Washington, DC Professional Chapter who live in Loudoun County and work in Loudoun and western Fairfax Counties. Their goal was to bring the strengths of AWC and the benefits of membership to the women of Loudoun and western Fairfax Counties while minimizing barriers to participation. Most women who live and work in this area forgo Washington, DC chapter events because of the distance, traffic, time required or conflicting personal obligations.
