Getting into the right college is like finding the right mate. Ninety percent of success is choosing wisely.
You don't pick the one who is most popular, but the one who brings out the best in you. You want a good match for your
personality, values and goals.
Once you identify your perfect guy, gal or school, getting them to say yes means knowing how to approach them and making
yourself irresistible.
It's easy to lose sight of the importance of the right match when admission anxiety is at an all-time high. Every
year, there are more stories of students with 4.2 GPAs and 2100 SAT scores being rejected by their first, second and
third choice colleges. The already stressful college application process has become more complex, confusing and
overwhelming.
The good news is that there are more than 3,000 colleges and universities in the United States. Students are often
surprised to learn how many great choices they have.
My goal as college matchmaker is to help students find and get into their best schools. Once we identify
the best matches, we develop a game plan to put your child in the strongest position to be admitted
to those schools.
In 2005-2007, my students found great matches and were admitted to colleges across the country. A partial
list includes:
- West - Stanford, USC, UCs (LA, Berkeley, San Diego, Santa Barbara, Davis, Irvine, Santa Cruz), Claremont McKenna,
Pomona, Loyola Marymount, Santa Clara, Pitzer, Univ of Redlands, Univ of Arizona, Arizona State, Northern Arizona
Univ, Univ of Oregon, Southern Oregon Univ
- Northeast/Mid-Atlantic - Columbia, Georgetown, Johns Hopkins, Lehigh, Bucknell, Boston College,
Boston Univ, Northeastern, Syracuse, Wheaton, Wellesley, George Washington, Univ of Maryland, Goucher, McDaniel
- South - Duke, Vanderbilt, Emory, Trinity (TX), Southern Methodist Univ, Elon
- Midwest - Washington U, Northwestern, U Michigan, Michigan State
In choosing a college or a spouse, you are making a decision about how you will live for the next four or forty
years. If you make the right match, they will be more satisfying and productive years.
