Built in 1950 for the purpose of blending coal mined at different locations of the Lynch District mining operation. Coal from the B and C Seams of mine No 31, and Highsplint coal was blended in order to get a desired blend of coal for coke.
This bin consisted of 28 compartments, fourteen on each side. Each compartment held 125 tons of coal. The coal was distributed on the conveyor belt by vibrators located under the bin. Samples were taken off the belt to ensure the proper blend of coal.
This blend of Coal was then loaded into railroad gondolas. These gondolas of coal were marked for shipment to Gary, Indiana and the coke ovens at that site.
