GUN RIGHTS ALERT!

---Ä- Government Tries Back-Door Gun Control
It would seem politicians have a new scapegoat for their quirky little social problems.
They are filing a plethora of lawsuits against firearm manufacturers. This litigation has no merit,
and its sole purpose is to bankrupt these companies. The tactic is similar to a "SLAPP" suit,
and is nothing short of judicial tyranny. The government officials responsible for these
harassment suits should be charged with extortion, conspiracy, and racketeering.

ALERT!

SB 15 - PASSED !

Another so-called "junk gun" ban.

  • Poorly written and broad in definition - It imposes a variety of functional and safety tests.
  • It may become a de facto handgun ban in California, with virtually all side arms
failing to be certified by the State.

W W W W W Letters to The Editor

February 29, 2000 (published 3/14/00)

Alameda Journal Letters
1516 Oak St.
Alameda, CA 94501

Dear Editor:

It was a real change of pace, reading Jay Levine’s poignant defense of the Second Amendment. The media usually features an endless stream of hysterical anti-gun propaganda.

Political opportunists and gun control advocates are mounting an all-out assault on the citizens right to keep and bear arms in California. The government is shutting down gun shows, taxing firearms and ammunition, banning and confiscating firearms, and attempting to bankrupt gun manufacturers with harassment law suits.

This year, Assembly Bill 1607 was introduced, which would license firearm owners and register all guns in the state. The object is to make gun ownership so expensive and onerous, the average citizen would be forced to give up their guns, or face imprisonment if they chose to defy the law. Don’t be fooled into thinking these laws are anti-crime measures. This legislative agenda is directed against you, the law-abiding citizen.

"The people never give up their liberties but under some delusion." Edmund Burke, 1784. May I add, if you give up your rights, they will be lost forever.

Respectfully,
William A. Rae

Measure G passes!

"Saturday Night Specials" and gun sales in Pleasanton are banned.
What most people don't seem to realize is that these ordinances have nothing to do with cheap or unsafe handguns- it is only the pretext to hoodwink the people. These laws establish the precedent and the right of cities to regulate firearms in violation of the state preemption in this field. If you can ban one gun- you can ban them all, by simply expanding the definitions and criteria.

East Bay Cities are imposing a punitive tax on stores that sell guns, in an effort
to put them out of business. The ability to tax is the ability to destroy.

Gun taxes pass in Oakland and San Leandro.

Politicians hope that these measures will discourage gun sales. The master plan is to outlaw privately owned firearms with taxes, licenses, permits, fees, insurance, storage requirements, inspections, and bureaucratic harassment.

* After 57 Years, Siegle's Gun Store Closes. A victim of punitive and selective taxation. This fine business will be missed by many. - See Story.
