It’s Boss’s Day.  I just noticed that today on the calendar.  I think everyone in the office did today too because of the odd variety of stuff I got today.  Rabb gave me a cactus.  I know that there has been a drought here lately but a cactus?  Where is that boy’s brain?  At least, Sturgis gave me something useful, an American flag that was flown over the White House on my birthday.  Usually I don’t go for that sort of thing but I had mentioned that I needed a new flag and it was a nice thought.

Bud stopped by with Little AJ and they gave me a gift.  Little AJ gave me a drawing of Clifford the Big Red Dog.  Of course, to me it looks like a big red blob but it will go on my fridge like he asked.

I have to say Mac’s gift was the most fun.  She gave me a rock-climbing weekend.  At first, I was afraid that I would have to take Meredith with me when I noticed that the tickets were for two.  Unfortunately, Meredith had a little accident with a refill kit for printer ink cartridges.  I think that she will just buy the regular cartridges from now on.  She called me last night and said she wasn’t going anywhere until the ink wore off.  I couldn’t help but laugh.

On Friday, I still didn’t know who to take with me to the weekend, so I impulsively, I asked Mac if she would join me.  I really can’t believe that I asked her and that she agreed.  She looked surprised too.  That Saturday at 0600, I picked her up and we made our way to the Blue Ridge Mountains.

We had a great time that day, we even managed to call each other by our names and not our ranks.  Or I should say, it was a great day until the torrentially cold downpour that caught us suddenly.  We managed to get down to the path and finally made it to our rooms.  We each went to our rooms to shower and try to get warm.  Just as I was getting out of the shower, I heard a knock on the door.

I wrapped the towel around my waist and opened the door to find a still drenched Sarah.  She told me that her shower seemed to be broken.  I offered her my shower then left her alone as I dressed and lit the fire.  She came out soon, bundled in a robe, still looking half frozen.  Knowing that she didn’t have a fireplace in her room, I grabbed a few of the overstuffed pillows from the bed.  I tossed them on the floor in front of the fire.  She gently sat down and looked up at me, silently inviting me to join her.

Even though I knew I shouldn’t, I couldn’t resist her eyes.  I joined her there, in more ways than one.  Best Boss’s Day I ever had.
