Dear Diary,
We had a great day in the city just being together. We didn’t really do tourist type things but
we did go to a museum. AJ also took me
to a small out of the way clothing shop.
I enjoyed looking around for clothes to wear for the rest of the day and
tomorrow. I didn’t want to spend too
much money but I didn’t plan on AJ paying for it all…
We stopped into a little place
called Guiseppe’s on Fifth Avenue so that I could buy some clothes. After stopping in at another place and
seeing all the raised eyebrows at my current attire, I was worried how this
tiny boutique would treat me. I should
not have worried. They were all very
nice to me. The owner even stopped by
and helped to pick out a few things after AJ spoke to him quietly in Italian. I planned on asking what he had said
later. In a surprisingly short period
of time, I had two new outfits and a new dress. They even had someone on hand to make a few minor alterations to
the dress that I found.
After changing back into one of
the new outfits, I went to pay the bill and get the bags but I found out that
AJ had taken care of everything already. When he paid, he arranged for someone
to deliver the clothes to the hotel after the alterations to the dress were
finished. I glared at him and he simply
smiled back so I knew that there was no choice in arguing with him. We continued on our way up Fifth Avenue
mostly just window shopping and enjoying our time together.
“AJ, you didn’t need to pay for my
clothes,” I said a little while later.
“I know. I feel bad that you lost your clothes so I wanted to make it up
to you. Besides, Guiseppe is a friend
of Francesca’s and he gave me the ‘family’ discount.”
“Oh. Okay. But you know that there is nothing that you
could have done. In fact, it is better
that mine went missing than yours.” I
paused a moment before I continued. “I
don’t think that you would have fit in any of my t-shirts.”
We both laughed and the subject
was dropped. It was forgotten when I
looked into the window of FAO Schwartz.
I reached out for AJ’s hand and pulled him to the door. I was a godmother and aren’t they supposed
to spoil their godchildren? AJ followed
me as we looked about the store for the perfect gift for Young AJ.
Even in such a big store, I found
the perfect gift quickly. I turned to
show it to AJ and he had disappeared. I
went to the register and paid for the gift.
I also arranged to have them ship it to my apartment so that I didn’t
have to carry it around the city for the rest of the day. I turned back around and nearly ran into
AJ.
“Where did you disappear to?” I
asked, smiling.
“Well, I had to buy something for
my namesake too, didn’t I?” He winked
at me before he took my hand and led me the way to the door.
For the rest of the morning, we
slowly walked hand in hand up Fifth Avenue toward the end of Central Park. We stopped often to window shop and people
watch. By the end of the morning, we
had arrived in front of the Natural History Museum.
“So do you want one hotdog or two
for lunch?” AJ said without even
looking at me.
My eyes shot to his face, “What?”
“I saw you eyeing the hot dog cart
we just passed.”
We smiled at each other as we
turned back around and made our way to the cart.
As we ate lunch, we decided to
skip the museum and go a few extra blocks to the planetarium. While I enjoyed places like the Natural
History Museum I had gone to the Smithsonian recently already. The planetarium was very nice and they even
had a movie about how people used the stars to navigate in ancient times and
how some people still do.
We had an enjoyable time wandering
about for the next few hours when finally a guard told us that they were
closing in a few minutes. I think that
the both of us were surprised that it was already nearly 1600 hours. We thanked the guard then made our way
back toward Central Park. I was happily
surprised as we walked back through that park that he took my hand in his.
We soon arrived at the front desk of the hotel. The manager met us and gave us the key to our new room. He once again apologized for the problems of the room mix up and said that I had gotten a delivery. We went up to our room and were rather surprised at what we found.
