Disclaimers in part 1
The next few weeks were uneventful. Except
that the Admiral, who she still couldn’t get use to calling AJ, insisted on
accompanying her to the reunion. She, however, remained adamant. She wasn’t
going to go. He finally seemed to have given up trying to convince her to go to
the reunion. Little did she know that the Admiral had begun what the JAG office
called Operation Reunion. He had nearly everyone in the office in on it. He had
even arranged for the new JAG to give Mac that Friday off. Harm managed to get
a copy of Mac’s apartment key and on Friday, after Mac got to the JAG Ops,
Harriet went to Mac’s place and packed her bags. Harriet decided to have a
little fun with what her clothing choices and what she decided to pack. Harriet
was quickly finished, then returned to JAG. When she got back she met the
Admiral in the parking lot and handed him Mac’s suitcase.
"Thank you for your help Harriet."
"Of course, sir. Not a problem. I think
that this whole operation has been fun."
"Care to walk up with me?"
"Of course, I can’t wait to see her
face," Harriet said with a smile.
"Neither can I, I just don’t want to be
in range of her hands or feet."
AJ walked into the JAG bullpen and greeted
everyone. He walked into Mac’s office and asked, "Ready to go?"
"Go where?" she asked suspiciously.
"The reunion. I took the liberty of
sending in your response and arranging for tickets, rooms etc," he said
while holding up the invitation. She was speechless. "Come on, Marine, we
have one hour or we’ll miss the flight."
"I would have to pack and there isn’t
enough time so too bad. I’m sorry."
She smiled up at AJ. He smiled back as
Harriet said, "It’s okay, ma’am. I used your spare key and packed a bag
for you. It’s in the Admiral’s car."
Mac stood speechless for a moment. She
noticed her new CO walk out into the bullpen. Before she could say anything her
CO advised her "Colonel. I just thought I would let you know that your
cases have been reassigned and you are to have the day off."
"I have a lot of paperwork to do."
"Lt. Simms can help with it."
"But, sir."
"Are you questioning my orders,
Colonel?"
"No, sir." She stood at attention.
"Good. Then enjoy your reunion." He
turned and walked back into his office. Mac turned around and
glared at AJ.
"You planned all of this," she said
in surprise. He smiled his half-smile and nodded.
"I had help too. Most of the
office." Mac turned to glare at Harm, Harriet, Bud and the Gunny. They all
suddenly seemed to have something else to do.
Before he left the room Harm said, "Give
it up Mac. Have a great time." AJ took Mac’s elbow and led her into her
office. He helped her with her coat and handed over her briefcase. She knew she
lost, but being a good sport she smiled and, collected her things. Harm noticed
that Mac didn’t seem to mind going with the Admiral. She refused to go with him
but she went with the Admiral without a fight. He couldn’t help but wonder why.
He had a feeling that this trip was going to be interesting.
