Quiet Photographs

Here are two quiet little photographs. Most of my photographs are quiet I think. This is a bit surprising to me since I usually think of myself as an extravert. Quiet photographs presuppose introversion, I believe, and a certain humility toward the subject being photographed.

I suppose I use photography to express my own introversion, usually smothered. I like to be alone when I photograph. This helps me to feel the light and the mood undisturbed. I have always been a fan of the Dutch painter Vermeer. His paintings seem to have a timeless quiet quality, but he is very much there as an observer in the picture himself and seems to identify strongly with, even love, his subjects.
