Established in 1984, INOVA Fairfax Hospital, Department of Rehabilitation, sponsors a support group for amputees. Amputees, their families and friends are invited to attend.
The group meets on a monthly basis to discuss issues involved in losing a limb, such as body image, financial concerns, relationships and employment changes. Additionally, group members provide peer visitation, both pre- and post surgical, as requested.
Group members share ideas and encourage each other by talking about their feelings, experiences and frustrations.
Social events are planned throughout the year to encourage cohesion and openness within the group. The group also publishes a monthly newsletter to inform all members of news, upcoming events, announcements and general business conducted on behalf of the group.
