During its first six months of publication, Artist Afloat has been reprinted three times, and has sold to a wide audience of artists, art lovers and armchair travelers on both sides of the Atlantic. It has been featured in Smithsonian Magazine, Canalboat Magazine, Waterways World, and has received many favorable reviews from newspapers in the States as well as in the UK. The original artwork for this book has visited hundreds of schools, colleges and libraries as part of a traveling art exhibit since 1992.

When artist Maggie is asked by her Aunt Rose to navigate her old boat down to London, little does she suspect that the journey of a hundred miles will change her life. There exists throughout Great Britain a network of navigable canals which connect every city and most major market towns. This network, which covers over 3000 miles of countryside, is home to a thriving boating community. As Maggie discovers the fascinating world of contemporary life on the British canals, she records her experiences in word and picture in her sketchbook.
