In the year of 1841, in the
small town of Aussig, a man named Johann Maresch opened a factory that would leave a legacy spreading the world over and traveling
through time.
More than
a hundred and fifty years ago, the twenty year old, Johann opened his Siderolithfabrik with partner, Adolf Baehr. Not only
were the two families business partners, but they also became in-laws. Together
the partnership created wonderful objects made for the home and garden gaining world wide recognition in 1906 winning a gold
medal at the Liberec World Exposition. They produced a wide range of ceramics; like vases, flower pots, pictures, clocks,
figurines, tobacco humidors, and garden decorations, such as animals and especially gnomes. Above all the factories creations;
the Maresch garden gnomes reputation was unequalled. The garden gnomes he produced were very popular in the city of Aussig, as well as afar.
