Upgrade
Cast - 2 people, one younger male, one older female.
Set - First class cabin on an airliner. May be performed with two folding chairs and common objects.
Technical requirements - One voice over, minimal lighting cues.
Running time - 10 to 13 minutes
Synopsis: This play is based on the line "the only interesting people are a man with a future and a woman with a past." Young
Kurt Heller and his father recently lost there jobs at a major company. The company was plundered by its chief executive to
pay for his trophy wife's birthday. She and Kurt meet as they both travel First class for he first time. He's been upgraded;
she's reduced to flying commercial. They argue about the fate of the company, but Kurt is so star struck he ends up asking
for her autograph.
Production History: Upgrade was selected for the Playwrights Round Table "Summer Shorts 2004" production in Orlando, Florida.
It was directed by Christian Kelty. This production was filmed by Orange County Television.An archival copy maybe provided.
Six Inches Doesn't Go Very Far
Cast - 2 people, male
Set - An office
Technical Requirements - one voice over, minimal lighting cues
Running time - approximately 10 minutes
Synopsis: The title for "Six inches" came from a disc jockey, and was written as a Halloween themed short for a fund raiser.
Charley is employed by Ivan, and when his friend and coworker Gaston is stabbed as they go to a ball game after work, they
figure out who committed the crime and why. The attempted murder is thwarted by Gaston's unexpectedly thick clothing, and
Ivan gets Gaston's girl friend, while Charley gets fired. There is slight sexual content, and everyone is named after a 2004
hurricane.
Production History: Six Inches was produced for the 2004 "10 for the Fringe" fundraiser. The show was directed by Margaret
Nolan.
Go Left Right
Cast - 2 males, 1 female, all in their 20's to 40's.
Set - a modest apartment
Technical requirements - 2 voice overs, 5 on / off lighting cues
Running time - 45 to 55 minutes
Synopsis: Go Left right looks at the polarization and trivialization of political debate driven by endless talk radio. Zack
is liberal, logical to absurdity, and narcoleptic. He's on a first date with Conservative, Christian, and nymphomaniac Phoebe,
who believes everything she hears on the air. While physically attracted to one another, the date keep breaking down into
silly arguments, climaxed by Zack's passing out. Phoebe takes advantage of this to have sex with the pizza delivery guy. Eventually,
Zack discovers this, and throws all his arguments back in his face, convincing him to stay. This show has strong sexual content,
and was written as a fringe festival production.
A Country Music Song
Cast - 2 male, one female, all about the same age
Set - a nice apartment
Technical requirements - basic light cues, common sound effects
Running time - approximately 110 minutes in 3 acts.
Synopsis: Theodore and Cynthia are a stable married couple living in a big city apartment. They are visited by a ghost from
Theodore's past, itinerant musician Kiley T Zazu who is looking for help producing a music video. Kiley slowly destroys Theodore's
life by losing his dogs, messing up a business deal, and watering his liquor. Cynthia grows to like Kiley, and arranges to
have his song produced, to the dismay of her husband. Kiley replaces the dogs with two mutts from the pound; spray painted
to look like the originals.
Kiley's song IS a hit, and Cynthia negotiates a very one sided deal with him. Theodore has a bad run of luck, and ends up
running a porno shop because he owns the building and the shop owner is in jail for tax evasion. He hires a friend of Kiley's
to operate it, and he's busted for drugs. Theodore is also arrested as an accomplice because he shows up at the wrong time.
Meanwhile, Cynthia gets Kiley a job as the opening act for George Jones, and to keep Cynthia, Theodore is forced to go on
the road with Kiley. Theodore and Kiley have switched position.
