Other Anime Survivor Sites:

Anime Survivor Washu (from Tenchi Muyo!) conducts a little "experiment" with 16 subjects (characters from various anime series), placing them on a remote deserted island a la Survivor. Unfortunately, it's just a cast list.
Anime Survivor—CBS of the internet Similar to Anime Survivor's official web site. Vote off a web site a week.
Anime Survivor's official web site This Anime Survivor is a lot like the Survivor you see on TV. The biggest difference is that the contestants aren't people, they're web sites and you get to vote! You pit your anime web site against other anime web sites.
Anime Survivor Page Ketch and Skull Kid came up with an Anime Survivor site. Mixes various anime series, pulled from Cartoon Network and Kid's WB only (i.e. the edited and dubbed versions – note the characters' names).
Fanfiction.net A huge archive of fanfic's (stories written by fans related to a particular series).

Anime Conventions (in So. Cal.):

Anime Expo
  • This is the biggest anime convention outside of Japan. It recently celebrated its 10th anniversary.
  • Held in Anaheim, CA (returned to the Convention Center this year) every year around July 4th.
  • Tons of anime & manga stuff, plus panel discussions, anime screenings, a cosplay contest, music video contests, gaming rooms and contests, karaoke, etc.
Ani-Magic
  • Held in Lancaster, CA in September.
  • While nowhere near the size of Anime Expo, it is still a good convention. I went for the first time a couple of years ago, but only for Saturday. It had a smallish dealer room, various panel discussions, 3 rooms of anime screenings, a cosplay contest, a music video contest, and the ubiquitous DDR tournament (that's Dance Dance Revolution for you newbies). It didn't seem to have any industry panels that other cons have (where anime distribution companies hold a Q&A session and make announcements).
Loscon
  • Loscon is the annual regional science fiction convention held by the Los Angeles Science Fantasy Society (LASFS) on Thanksgiving weekend.
  • Held in Burbank, CA.
  • I've never been to this, but I have a flier
San Diego Comic-Con International
  • This is the show for comic books and related items.
  • Held annually at the San Diego Convention Center.
  • More dedicated to comics & sci-fi, but has lots of anime & manga stuff including panel discussions and anime screenings, some cosplay, although mostly sci-fi/comic related.
Comic Book & Science Fiction Convention
  • Meets the 3rd or 4th Sunday of each month at the Shrine Auditorium.
    700 W 32nd St.
    Los Angeles, CA
    Info. tlphn. : 818-954-8432

  • Omocha is Japanese for "toy", so the store's name translates as Toy Box.
Supercollector
  • Has tons of anime, wall scrolls, sound tracks, model kits, etc., plus fansubs.
  • Also has HK videos, Star Wars/Star Trek collectibles, and other stuff.
  • I used to go to their retail store for years—it was the best place in So Cal for anime. Recently closed their store and moved to a new location that is only open certain days, but their web store is still alive and kicking.
