We are Anita and Dwayne Pugh. Dwayne is conspicuously absent from photos since he is a professional photographer.  You can get him behind the camera, never in front of one.  We have two wonderful sons, one five and the other a new addition in 2002.  We also share our home with four Greyhounds, two Afghan Hounds, a cat, a ferret and several fish.  We have earned the reputation with family and friends of being "The Pugh Zoo."

My love affair with the Afghan hound began as a child.  Every free period we had in the 4th grade, I would pull out the encylopedia and read the well illustrated section covering dog breeds.  I sat and dreamed about some day owning an Afghan Hound.  I had only seen an Afghan in real life once and it was only from a distance.  I thought they were the most elegant creatures alive.  The memory of seeing that dog will stay with me forever.

It wasn't until I became an adult that I realized that Afghan Hounds could really be a part of my life.  Shortly after I purchased my first Afghan Hound, I attended a dog show and knew I wanted to show my own dogs.  I had always wanted to show dogs since childhood.  My parents, unfortunately, were not very in tune with the dog show world.  So my dreams would have to be put on hold.

I have learned so much about showing dogs and I have yet so much more to learn.  My first time to show was an abosolute disaster.  I entered my 8 month old puppy in a show without prior practice or training classes.  The pros made it look so easy.  Our inexperience was SO apparent.  My puppy bucked like a wild bronco and never let the judge put a hand on her.  A kind soul pulled me over to the side after our little spectacle and offered some sound advice.  He told me to get down to her level and let her know I was there for her.  I took his advice and then went to some training classes.  Little did I know at the time, that person who was showing such a lovely young brindle dog(T.R.) was Michael Canalizo.  That was probably one of my fondest memories because it goes to show that there are people who are willing to help out the obvious novice.

My dog show life started with Afghans, but the Greyhound eventually graced our lives.  Dwayne, although supportive of me and my dogs, really didn't have the same love affair with Afghan Hounds.  He was more interested in a "what you see is what you get" kind of dog.  They Greyhound seemed a  natural fit.  I have come to love and admire these elegant creatures as much as their furry cousins.  There is something very charming about them at grooming time.

Altough we enjoy attending dog shows as a hobby we also try to let our dogs run the lure course occassionally.  The dogs enjoy visiting my sons' day care center.  The photo above was taken during pet week.  Dwayne keeps busy with his studio and inline hockey.  Our oldest son has just begun hockey classes.  So we manage to keep very busy.
