Challenges are contests for finished quilts and are due at our last meeting on June 1, 2010. Guild Challenge – Attack of the UFOs Peruse your sewing space(s) for UFOs to finish this year. This is the challenge: make a list of 8 the UFOs you have (brief descriptions, like "pink & blue rail fence flannel baby quilt") and commit to finishing them by our last meeting of the year on June 7, 2010. Bring the list to the October guild (or to another if you can't get it together by then) and bring the projects to "show and tell" as they are completed. A "completed" project means one that is finished, bound, done, over, no more work needed (e.g., not just a quilt top, but a quilt). All types of projects are eligible, including quilts, wall hangings, totes, purses, etc. For every UFO crossed off your "to-do" list, you get a chance to win a cash prize at the June meeting. If you manage to finish all 8 projects on your list, you will receive a packet of 5 coordinated fat quarters AND an extra ticket for the prizes. The number 8 was chosen to coincide with the 8 guild meetings we have starting with November. Ann Pastore will be Keeper of the Lists . If you'd like to participate in the challenge but have less than 8 UFOs, please do. Bring your list and for each completed project you will get a ticket for the prize drawings. Please bring them in for show and tell as done. President's Challenge If you've had a chance to see our schedule, you will know that Ami Simms is coming in March. Ami raises money for Alzheimer's disease by auctioning off small, donated, quilts every month. To read about this, go to www.alzquilts.org/. Here's our challenge: make a quilt of you OWN design (or more than one) to donate to this initiative. The rules: 1. quilts can be no larger than 9 x 12 inches, 2. quilts must be finished so that it can be displayed (the methods that can be used are available on a handout available at the charity table); and 3. quilts must be free from any embellishments that cannot withstand the "careful" care provided by the USPS. Although the project is called the Alzheimer's Art Quilt Initiative, a look at the website shows that any style of quilt – art or traditional – is acceptable. Take this opportunity to try something new and to flex your creativity all while helping raise funds for this worthy cause. For each quilt donated, you will get a chance to win a cash prize in June. Please bring quilts in as completed. We will present whatever has been collected to Ami at the March meeting and continue to collect donations in April, May, and June. Whatever is sent to the initiative needs to documented so Ann Pastore will act as "Temporary Quilt Registration Goddess." |
