In the
midst of Colonel Budd's spruce
plantation (or Black Forest), Mushroom Trail angles down slope
along a single-minded line as straight as the columns of shadowing
tree trunks you must avoid for safe passage.
Enter from the north leg of Circuit Trail
just before it emerges into the daylight of Sawmill Field. Hope
that no one is climbing from the other direction as the narrow
path will not accommodate oncoming traffic. Or that anyone climbing
is agile enough to scramble out of the way, for it's unlikely
that you, picking up speed, will find the room to.
Barely two
hundred yards long and no wider than a ski length, Mushroom allows
little margin for error (or protruding elbows), and calls for
tracking, rather than turning, ability. Until, that is, it spills
out onto the lower half of Circuit Trail. Turn Here! And Quickly!
Lest you fly across Circuit and into the tangle of Black Forest
on the other side.
