Myanmar Cyclone

The American Overseas Medical Aid Association in collaboration with the IBU Foundation of Indonesia urgently seek donations to fund direct aid and direct response to victims of the Myanmar cyclone Nargis that hit May 3, 2008.

Our mobile medical teams, engineers, and young volunteers are preparing an emergency response to provide water, sanitation and shelter, in addition to direct medical care to rural people.  We work on a dollar donated-dollar spent on recipients, direct aid basis. Companies wishing to support our indirect costs and overhead may earmark a grant for that purpose. But donor dollars go straight to the people in services and resources.

As you know, over many years Myanmar's people have been suppressed by a dictatorial, military regime leading to uncountable deaths, including Buddhist monks last year.

In their weakened condition, where families have lost sons and daughters, the cyclone that killed 100,000 people
has far worst consequences.  Rural people are living on the edge.  Let's help them recover fast through this grassroots effort.

Sincerely,
Dr. Lucia Cargill, President/Executive Director, AOMAA

                     NEWS FLASH

May 23, 08  Dr. Jack Gustiana and the IBU medical team have been given permission to enter Myanmar. They have a pledge of 100,000 Euros from the EU and a lesser amount of money from Benefiz Germany. Action Medeor has said they will do something in support of the direct medical aid.

These funds will be made available when they actually get to Myanmar.
The team needs a bridge grant for staging. This is an excellent opportunity for us to assist.

To donate, and help launch the team, either go to:

We wish the IBU front team, and the medical doctors to follow all the best in their continuing efforts. They will not only provide direct, short term assistance, but intend to build long lasting relationships with other young professionals who want to build their own disaster response non-profit in Burma.

May 21, 08  The IBU team is in the staging phase ready to go to Burma when the documents come through, as expected this week due to the opening of doors to A.S.E.A.N. doctors.

AOMAA PROJECTS

AOMAA - IBU Foundation partnership
The IBU Foundation is called Yayasan IBU in Indonesia, a registered non-profit formed by the young team of Indonesian professionals after the tsunami.
Their website:

IBU4Aceh
Project assisting the people whose lives were devastated by the effects of the tsunami wave in 2004

Since the tsunami, starting December 28, 2004, AOMAA has worked to provide capacity building and technical advice to a group of talented, young Indonesian physicians, nurses, psychologists, teachers, managers, logisticians, program development officers, and support administrative staff. From the original core group of 11 doctors and 50 volunteers who started working in Meulaboh, Aceh, on January 1, 2005, we assisted in the formation of a highly functioning, highly ethical, professional, local non-profit organization called IBU4Aceh.

Kosovo
AOMAA One-to-One Projects in Kosovo

AOMAA fills the gaps when foreign aid is only working through organizations in towns and cities. We assist those in rural areas who have fallen through the cracks.  A handicapped family could not survive the winter after the war. Their house was destroyed and they had no way to provide food and milk for the baby and three year old daughter.  AOMAA advocated for this family with Handicapped International and Movimondo to rebuild the house quickly before the winter.

Shilpa Orphanage
Project in Sri Lanka

AOMAA is advocating for the wonderful home fostering program for children orphaned in the tsunami. We are happy to provide information to anyone who would like to support an orphaned child in a foster family supervised, administered and evaluated by this wonderful, professional staff. The cost is approximately $400 per year to provide food and support money to the family, and school/uniform/book fees for the child.
