Good Ideas Dept. Deconstruction of old houses and RE USE of their elements, wood.

As I write this, I'm watching HUELL HOWER's PBS TV show which is blowing my mind.
There's this group of workers, actually  one carpenter with his relatively untrained
crew --- They take apart old houses, pull the fixtures, the plumbing,
windows and all these items are carefully removed and carried to their
L.A. warehouse, which is HUGE!

They call themselves the "USE" people!

WILD IDEAS like that which GREEN people have these days can become innovative
businesses. They are based on ecological premises. WHY CUT DOWN NEW TREES
when old wood exists!

IN IT.

The group on TV  are deconstructing a fifty year old house. THE OWNER gets a
charitable donation tax write off. But that's not all the perks of this business.
The demolishing method is environmentally kind as each house constructed of
used items is NOT cutting down precious trees; they RE USE building materials.
The DEMOLISH BOYS don't build, they SELL to people who reuse when
they build.

HUGE beams are removed whole. I am reminded of those guys who go into the
MISSOURI river to get old trees that were snagged for a hundred years.
Supposedly dried out, planked, it's worth GOLD.

But the RE USE GUYS do it as a public service, no landfill mess,
dirtying up the planet, not for them. They take trees, they take bricks, doors, French
doors, even shingles!

This one corporation does a house every two days all year long. C&D they call
it. Construction and Demoliton debris. Half the debris in a country can
be reused. Each house has thirty tons not including concrete and
asphalt. They grind that up. Re use it, too!

It's run as a charity. http://www.thereusepeople.org/ContactUs/ and they
sell the used wood, bricks etc in LA HARBOR area, ALAMEDA. They also
have their 501 C 3 charity status. So they pay no cash to the gov for
their profits. They sell the used stuff cheaply, favoring consumers. And
it also means no landfill is being used up by old houses.

This particular biz corp was on HUELL HOWSER TV show. It emplys a team of 7
men per each house. The men train 3 mos to do this, so they are off the
street guys. Prob earning 15$ an hr.  The biz sells all the materials at a
quarter of retail price at their ALAMEDA warehouse. REUSE CORPORATION
it's called THE REUSE PEOPLE and their site:

IT occurs to me that WILD IDEAS that people have these days can become
innovative businesses. They can be based on ecological premises. Health
premises, beliefs. Innovative Business concepts. THE ITHACA dollar is
fascinating. A whole town using money they print themselves where YOU
CLEAN MY HOUSE FOR TEN ITHACA DOLLARS, I FIX YOUR
CAR for TEN ITHACA DOLLARS OF CREDIT.

AND you can even do the business tax free! ALL PROFITS for the workers,
if it is really a good idea.

HUELL has now gone to the warehouse. WOOD stacked to the ceiling. I
wonder if there are nails in it! Is there a name for that stuff? SAWBREAKERS?
BLADE SNAPPERS? Widowmakers? 50c on the dollar for what new wood sells for
who cares?. PICKET FENCING...DOORS. "BROKEN IN."
