I am training to participate in the San Diego Rock N Roll Marathon on June
3, as a member of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's Team In Training. All of us on Team In Training are raising funds
to help stop leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin lymphoma and myeloma from taking more lives. I'm completing this marathon in honor
of all individuals who are battling blood cancers. These people are the real heroes on our team, and we need your support
to cross the ultimate finish line - a cure!
Please make a donation to support my participation in Team In Training and
help advance the Society's mission.

My team doesn't start meeting for another couple of weeks, but I've started
training a bit on my own. I run a mile to 3 miles whenever I get time three times a week. My next update will be after my
first team training on February 3, so come back often to check on my progress.
16 February 2007
Training is going well. My team members are great people and I'm making some
great new friends. I can tell that when things start getting tough, we'll have a lot of support from each other. Our first
training was lots of fun. We had a shoe clinic afterwards and I got to know some of the new people. I was in Louisiana for
the second training, but I'll make it this weekend for some more fun

Just a quick update...I recently adopted a cute little dog from a rescue
shelter. I think we needed him as much as he needed us. He was just a couple of pounds overweight though. I took him to the
vet and discussed diet and exercise for him. He has become a great training partner. I don't go very fast and he's got really
short legs but can keep up with me and sometimes tries to even pull me.
This weekend, I'm scheduled to run 4 miles with my team and then my son and
I are participating in the Outback 3K that afternoon, which makes for a very eventful Saturday.
25 February 2007
Well, I completed the 4 miles with my team yesterday and then Cheryl, her
husband, and Linda from my team, joined me and Austin at the Outback 3K, later that afternoon. Austin came in first place!
I'm so proud of him. I did well. I kept the same pace that I had during training that morning, but boy are my legs sore! Whew!
13 March 2007
Let's see...last week was an off-week for team training, but Cheryl and I
got in 3 miles on our own. Thanks for setting that up, Cheryl! This past weekend, with my team, I got in 6 miles. Kept a good
pace, too! I was very happy with my 1 hr and 28 minutes. I'm not a "runner" but I have been trying the Jeff Galloway method
of 4 minutes jog (if you can call it that) then 1 minute walk and that has really helped my endurance level. Next week is
6 miles with hills...OMG...the insanity!!!
19 March 2007
Unfortunately, I did not make it to my team training this past weekend. However,
I did train and I got in 4.6 miles in 1 hour and 1 minute...which is my best time, yet!! Starting this week, one of my closest
friends, Jeff, is going to start training with me 2 nights a week after work. It's much more fun to have someone with you
to train. We've got 11 weeks before the marathon...time is flying by and before I know it, it will be race day and I will
be "rockin' and rollin'"!!
24 March 2007
Jeff and I met up at Cranes Roost and I got three miles in on Wednesday. It's a great place to train. I'm glad I've got
his support through this endeavor. Today, I DID get up and made it to our team training. I got 9 miles in at 2 hours and 16
minutes. Yep...you read that correctly...9 MILES!!! We're getting closer and closer.
31 March 2007
2 hours and 36 minutes is what it took me to get through 10 miles this morning. Seemed the second half went a lot quicker
than the first. Not sure how that happened because I am SORE!! Jeff and I hit Crane's Roost again this week, also. Pretty
sure that is what helps me get through the Saturday team trainings. Next week, we start the 4 mile runs during the week. I'll
keep you posted on how I do.
21 April 2007
Aside from getting in some training at Crane's Roost, my company sponsored a team to participate in the IOA Corporate 5K,
Thursday. I finished in 41 minutes and 57 seconds. This morning, I completed a 10-mile jog/walk in 2 hours, 28 minutes and
39 seconds. It was great. Not only did I shave a few minutes off from the last 10-miler, but my hamstring and shoulder were
a little sore and I speed walked the last 2-1/4 miles and still beat my time from before. I actually feel great and the soreness
I get from my trainings is decreasing each time.
Also, I made a big decision this week. My schedule is becoming almost unbearable to keep up with. After talking with my
son, I've decided to only do the half marathon in San Diego. I can do a marathon another time. The decision itself, seemed
to take a huge load off and I don't feel so tired. I've made some huge strides physically, this season, even considering everything
else. As you can see, I'm almost finished with my fundraising (until the next event). I have to say THANK YOU for your support!!!
You have no idea what help it is when you think you can't make that next mile or how are you going to keep up with the rest
of your life-work, kids, school, etc. If it weren't for the support, it would be so much harder. THANK YOU!! THANK YOU!! THANK
YOU!!

Training has been put on the backburner a bit, due to a family emergency. However, I did meet my fundraising goal!!!
WOOHOO!!! Thank you to Finn, for his contribution on behalf of our dearly departed friend and colleague, Gary Lee Hooker,
that put me over my goal. Gary lost his 3 year battle with cancer a couple of weeks ago.
Don't let this discourage you. It's not discouraging me. We've made so many strides in research to fight and
win against many types of cancers. Which is why I have already signed up for my next fundraising event...a FULL marathon
in San Francisco in October. Yep...another event!! I figure I'll be halfway there in training with the San Diego
event, and a completely ahead in training that as long as I continue to take it easy, the full will be a "breeze".
Only 4 weeks until San Diego, and I'm pumped. See you at the finish line!!!
19 May 2007
Sorry about the lag in updates...We had a family emergency that took some time to deal with, but I just got back from a
7-miler! 1 hour 48 minutes and 47 seconds AND we're 2 weeks from the big day!! Getting closer. Keep checking
back for more updates!!!

Well, I did it!!! 13.1 miles in 3 hours 36 minutes and 39 seconds!!! Thank you for all of your support and encouragement
over the last few months. now...I will be continuing my training to complete the San Francisco full marathon in October...yep...you
guessed it...for Team In Training.
