Welcome to my Team In Training home page.
I am training to participate in
the Intracoastal Century Ride endurance event, on October 29, 2006, as a member of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's Team
In Training. All of us on Team In Training are raising funds to help stop leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin lymphoma and myeloma
from taking more lives. I'm completing this marathon in honor of all individuals who are battling blood cancers. These people
are the real heroes on our team, and we need your support to cross the ultimate finish line - a cure!
Please make a
donation to support my participation in Team In Training and help advance the Society's mission.

This weekend will be my first team training for the century ride and I'm really looking forward to it.
I just completed the Memphis In May Triathlon for Team In Training on May 21.
To give you an idea of what we can do with these events, 216 Team In Training participants from across the
country, raised $750,000. My team of 5 raised almost $20,000. That is one event, from one season, and we usually
have 3 or 4 events each season. Just imagine how many people we are able to help.
When I got back from Memphis, I e-mailed the results from my triathlon to all of those who supported me during
last season. My friend, Jan, responded to me that she just found out she's in remission, after she had undergone chemo
and stem cell therapy for close to a year.
I also received an e-mail from a friend of mine from high school, Kayte, that I haven’t talked to in
several years. However, a mutual friend of ours that I have been in touch with was sending her my updates. She
e-mailed me out of the blue to tell me she was proud of my efforts and that she has been a survivor for three years now.
It's stories like this that make Team In Training a worthwhile experience for me.

I went to my first team training yesterday!! How exhilarating it was to finish a little over 26 miles and not be tired.
I got to meet my team. Some are alumni and some are new to Team In Training. I’m going to have to get a road bike, though.
Training for a century ride with my tri bike is like training for a triathlon with a mountain bike…should not be done.
I do have a friend, though, who I will be getting one from, hopefully this week. This works out pretty well, since my son
is getting ready for his first duathlon in a couple of weeks and sharing the tri bike is a little difficult.

Anyone who thinks Florida is flat, is wrong!!! Yesterday, during training we went 40 miles and...well, let's see...there's
Taco Hill and Citrus Tower, not to mention the gradual inclines that had my legs wondering what torture I was going to put
them through next. But, I did it. I got through it and am ready to do it again next weekend. Hope everyone is having a great
Father's Day!!

Sorry I've been out of touch with my updates. It appears an injury from my triathlons is acting up and causing some inconvenience
right now. I am scheduled to see an orthopaedic so I can get back to training. I will keep you posted.

Whew! The doctor says my MRI and X-rays look good and with help of Celebrex, I'll be back to training July 23. (So my updates
will be interesting again.)

I made it to training yesterday!!! I got through a little over 34 miles a lot faster than I had anticipated with having
to take so much time off. It was a great ride. Next week, we're getting up to 50 miles and more hills. The hills are NOT my
favorite part of the ride, but are great practice in building up my endurance.
We also got some great news this week regarding one of our Honorary Coaches, Collin. He has finished his chemo treatments
and all of the tests have come back negative. Is that exciting or what?!?! This is why Team In Training is so important...to
make a difference in the lives of the patients.

The last couple of weeks have been a little crazed with the kids going back to school and all, but I did 46 miles in training
yesterday. Thanks to my awesome coach, I've got a loaner road bike (much better for the century ride than my tri bike)
and I am starting to kick some tail on my distances and times. Next week is a recovery week and then Labor Day weekend
will be our first 60-mile training.

Sorry about the gap in updates...due to some health problems, I was unable to participate in this event. I had started
cross-training for the Arizona PF Chang's half marathon and overdid it a little. Last month, doctor's orders stopped
my training for several weeks. However, I was released yesterday to resume training. This gives me a good head
start on training for the San Diego Rock N Roll Marathon next June. I am still fund raising, and you can continue to
make donations.
Well, that’s it for now…I'll have a new site for the marathon for you to keep up with my progress.
Thank you for your support!
