1) Create a newspaper

 2-3 pages long on

 one of the

 civilizations

2) Rank the 4 civilizations based on their accomplishments.

Explain your rankings.

3) Develop a law code for an ancient society.  Explain why you chose the laws and how you would enforce them.

4) Read a book on one

 of the civilizations

 and do a book chat

 about it telling me

 what you learned.

5) Develop a what if scenario of at least one page where you explore what would have happened if a major event were changed in the history of one of the cultures from the unit

6) Create an advertisement on a poster board to try to get people to move from another civilization to yours

7)  Create a model of

 new city based on

 one of the

 civilizations.  Make

 sure to label it with

 the correct features

8) Development a triple Venn diagram comparing and contrasting Mesopotamia, Egypt, and the Eastern River Valley

9)Develop your own written language. It can not be related to English.

Additional notes of projects:

1) Write from the perspective of someone who lived during the time period.  Include both news stories and other areas of interest.  Make sure to only cover one period of history.

1- poorly written and rushed through work that showed little research

2- followed directions but needed to focus more on a single historical period,  needed to

proofread, and more overall detail

3- followed directions by focusing on a single period. Either included enough detail with

some grammar problems or  was well written but needed more detail

4- well written with few grammar problems and well researched piece

5- excellent overall project with many details and that was well written.

2) List them in order.  Then make a clear argument for why you ranked each of the four civilizations in that place based on their accomplishments.

1- poorly written, little research done, reasons for rankings unclear

2- some research and reasons for rankings unclear

3- used book for as primary source of research,  writing ok but some mistakes

4- did some outside research,  written well, clear reason for rankings

5- lots of outside research done,  no grammar mistakes, clear reasons for rankings

3) Make sure to include major issues that would occur in an ancient society.  Include at least 15 laws. Explain why each law was important and why the punishments were chosen

1- poorly written,  little thought put into,  more explanations needed

            2-

4) Get approval from me before you start to read the book.

1- poorly developed did not show understanding of major portions

2- some basic understanding but not able to show what was learned

3- showed understanding of most major points but not all

4- able to explain major points and well prepared

5- able to explain all major points, well prepared, and able to relate to other class

                         material.

5)

6) Make it eye catching and attention grabbing. Emphasize why your civilization is better then the others.  Include images and slogans

1- rushed and not well thought out; poorly written, images not included

2- some work put in but needed substantially more time

3- covered some information well but needed to include more details on product

4- does a good job in most areas but could have been more imaginative and

                        enticing

5- attractive; shows imagination;  clearly shows the uses of the product

7) Should include all of the major features.

1-5 points based on the attention to detail and clarity of the map

1- rushed work that shows little overall effort

2- shows some basic understanding  but did not cover enough different types

3- completed basic information but could have been better planned overall

4- well presented project with serious effort and clear labels

5- correctly shows the many different parts of the city-state and makes sense

                         geographically

8) Should look like this

1- poorly written and rushed through work that showed little research

2- followed directions but needed to focus more on a single historical period,

needed to proofread, and more overall detail
