The Chesapeake 17 performed beautifully, paddled in this picture off the coast of Santa Cruz, California.  There was a strong groundswell running on this mid December day, with 6 foot swells rolling in on the sets.  Waves were breaking across the harbor mouth jetties as we headed out, but I had no problem punching through without getting my glasses wet.  I literally surfed back into the harbor a few hours later, as dry as when I left.  Click the image for a better view.

This is my inspiration to begin building my next boat.  Nothing hurts the soul more than to see a pretty girl in a garish plastic kayak.  She deserves a handcrafted boat, too.  Not only did she tolerate my long disappearances in the garage, noxious fumes wafting through the house and a year's worth of undone chores,  she provided moral support and helping hands when I needed it the most.  Click on the yellow submarine to see how pretty my wife Nancy really is.
