John3Anderson (Abraham2 John1)(b 7 Nov 1755 at Windham d after 1786 b'd Westbrook) He m'd 20 Nov 1777 Anne Woodman (b d ) probably a dau of Stephen Woodman of Windham. John3 Anderson, along with his older brother Edward3 and younger brother, Abrabam3 Jr., was among the Windham men who served less than three years at the time of the Revolutionary War. He is shown in the Index of Revolutionary War Veterans of Maine and in the listing under the Massachusetts SolLIers & Sailors in the Revolutionary War as follows: Anderson, John, Windham, Sgt., Capt. Richard Mayberry's Company, Col. Ebenezer Francis' Regt., pay abstract for travel allowances from Dorchester Heights, home. In a list of men serving, prepared by historian Nathan Goold of Portland, John3 Anderson shows as having been in service ll months, 6 days. In the Maine Historical & Genealogy Register Vol. page 9 it lists Sergt. John Anderson of Windham of Capt. Richard Mayberry's Company-Windham. Also 6th Co. of Col. Ebenezer Francis' Regt.--garrisoned at forts on Dorchester Heights August to December 1, 1776. John3 Anderson seems to have been, for some time, a merchant at Windham Hill in conjunction with his brother Edward3, but later moving to Westbrook, Me.

  • We have further knowledge of this family from the book "History of Norway, Me." page 342 by Charles F. Whitman, dated 1922. It speaks of John3 Anderson named above being the son of Abraham and Anna (Cloudman) Anderson, the grandson of John and Rebecca (Waite) Anderson who married at Watertown, Mass., July 16, 1706. Also that said John3 Anderson married Anna Woodman. See pages 47 of this book for further details.
