STOP THE PRESSES!!!!

I hope you have the BRACKETTs of Saratoga County, NY. I am not on line but saw this announced on New England Genealogy list. We have some famous Bracketts here and I want to make sure they are included. I am not related, just doing half of Saratoga County's genealogies and THEY WERE HERE. Actually they are still here according to the phone book and I know some people who are Brackett descendants.

From "Saratoga County Heritage" page112-113

Perhaps the most distinguished member of the Bar of Saratoga County would be Edgar Truman Brackett, born July 30, 1853, on the sand plains of Wilton, Saratoga, NY, moved in childhood with his parents to Mt. Vernon, IA, graduated from Cornell College there in 1872 after which he returned to Saratoga Springs, NY to study law in the office of Alembert Pond and Windson B. French. He was admitted to the Bar in 1875 and to partnership of Pond, French, and Bracket in 1876. Within a few years he headed his own firm of Brackett, Butler and Baucus. In 1892 he decided to go it alone until 1917 when the firm of Brackett, Todd, Wheat and Wait was organized.

He harbored political ambitions and succeeded in winning nomination and election to the NYS Senate in 1895. He served as State Senator 1896-1906 and from 1902-1812, He was delegate at large to the Constitutional Convention of 1915.

Previously he had been engaged as Chief Counsel to the Board of Managers of the Assembly of the State of New York which in Sept. 18, 1913 sought to impeach Governor Saizer. The Court of Impeachment consisted of the Judges of the Court of Appeals and the members of the Senate. It was a distinguished array of counsel which Senator Brackett headed. The impeachment proceedings resulted in conviction. Senator Brackett sustained his brilliant record as a trial lawyer.

During his lifetime, Senator Brackett maintained active interest in the welfare and civic betterment of Saratoga Springs. In 1909 he sponsored in the Senate a bill designed to save the mineral springs and to create the Saratoga Springs Reservation. From this has grown the great park system which now includes two golf courses, the Gideon Putnam Hotel, the Saratoga Performing Arts Center, and other health and recreational facilities. In 1902 he, with cooperation of other influential individuals, founded the Adirondack Trust Co. of which he was President until his death in 1924. This is now the largest independent commercial bank in the State of NY outside of NY City.

There is more that I could supply you. His son Charles Brackett was a producer in Hollywood, CA. I cannot grab his file at the moment.

The Brackett's are buried on East Hillside at Greenridge Cemetery in Saratoga Springs, NY. If you would like more information, I would be able to supply the family data from the cemetery record and the obituaries that are available.

There is much more on Edgar and Charles at the Saratoga Library and that would be available to you. Just send me a message and give me a few days.

God Bless
