ROAD RIDER
December 1992

To this day, I'm kicking myself for not buying an "Overnighter" cover sooner. Our cover from Anchor not only works, but it works darn well. The cover is also very easy to put on and take off, which is a big plus to me.

Anchor constructs their covers from Dupot nylon pack cloth materials that is two to three times heaver than that of most covers. Lighter covers may take up less space, but I bet they won't hold up long under the kind of abuse most of us subject them to. Personally, I find the few ounces of extra weight a small price to pay for a quality cover that may outlast the motorcycle.

The nylon is polyurethane-coated to make it very water resistant. I've used the cover in some pretty bad rainstorms and can testify that even after three years of service, it doesn't let any water come through on my bike. Even ice doesn't seem to adversely affect it.

The full "Tourer" cover and the half "Overnighter" cover both have bungee cords sewn into the entire bottom seam, not an elastic tape that loses its elasticity after a few months. The Overnighter also has two bungee cores on the sides to attach to crash bars or pegs, which do an excellent job of holding the sides down.

Campers know that the UV rays from the sun will make light nylon brittle and susceptible to tearing. My Venture is parked and covered in direct sunlight when I'm at work at lesat five days a week. After three years of that, the cover is still as flexible and durable as the first day I used it.

WING WORLD MAGAZINE

Anchor Custom makes cover-ups for a variety of things: boats, motorcycles, your mother-in-law, political scandals, whatever. Well, maybe not your mother-in-law...

My initial impression was this is an extremely well-made, sturdy cover. The nylon fabric is all but impossible to pierce, burn, melt or bruise. The full cover fit my Wing perfectly, with a cord stitched into the bottom hem that will keep the cover in place throughout the worst windy night. The half cover has two bungee cords with PVC hooks to fasten to the bike's underside, assuring a safe and sound attachment.

Besides making covers for all model Gold Wings, Anchor makes covers to fit ST1100s, Bushtec trailers, Escapade and Cycleline trailers, and Friendship III, Daytona, Escort and Formula II sidecars. Each cover comes with its own stuff sack.

The greatest strength of Anchor's covers is the sturdiness of the fabric. A grommet for locked attachment is now standard, and is a real convenience. Anchor covers are at their best as long-term storage covers. Perhaps that's why Bushtec stocks them (Bushtec's John Preston is quick to point out the Hensleys are very customer-oriented). While you might pay less for another brand cover, good service and top quality should outweigh price, don't you think? - Nick Hoppner

RIDER MAGAZINE

Anchor covers...would have fared well [in our 1997 Buyer's Guide] but we inadvertently left them out. Constructed of DuPont nylon pack cloth, Anchor covers don't have the soft interior liners for windscreen protection like some top-line covers, and you'll have to wait a few minutes after stopping to put the cover on, as they also do not have a heat shield in the lining for hot pipes. In addition, the full cover does not have a reinforced cutout for antennas that won't fold down. None of these issues are uncommon among covers in this price range, though, and the Anchor covers do come with a stuff sack. In addition to fitting all touring and sport-touring bikes, Judy at Anchor will make a custom cover to fit your specific requirements. Anchor also makes covers for some motorcycle trailers. - Mark Tuttle, Jr.
