Bruce Street School for the Deaf is located near major routes, including Interstate 78 East or West and the Garden State Parkway North or South.

Near Interstate 78
Directions from Interstate 78 East
 
Take the New Jersey Turnpike north to the Garden State Parkway.

Take the 78 East exit off the Parkway. Stay in the far right-hand lane(s) as you pay the toll at the barrier. The exit is directly beyond the toll barrier on the right.

Take the Lyons Avenue Hillside/Irvington Exit off of I-78.

Stay straight going off the exit. Do NOT go to the right towards Hillside. You want to go to Irvington.

The road you are really on is the service road for I-78 East and parallels it. Go to the first light; this is Chancellor Avenue. Continue to the SECOND LIGHT. This is Lyons Avenue.

At the SECOND LIGHT, make a RIGHT onto Lyons Avenue.

Go up three lights. The third light should be Aldine Street and there should be a playground on your left. Aldine is one-way the wrong way, but the school is on your left. Go up one more block and make the first left you can make after the light at Aldine Street. This is Clinton Place. (Do not go up to the next (4th) traffic light - then you have gone too far)

The building says, "George Washington Carver lementary (sic) School". There is a blue banner at the main entrance (where the flag and flag pole is) which says, "George Washington Carver”. You enter here.

Directions from Interstate 78 West
 
Take the New Jersey Turnpike SOUTH to Exit 14. You want to follow the signs to 78 West.

Take the 78 West exit off the Turnpike.

Take the second exit: Lyons Avenue Hillside/Irvington Exit off of I-78. (DO NOT TAKE THE CLINTON AVENUE exit which comes before this exit.)

Go up the ramp. Stay in the left lane; go all the way up the ramp. At the light, make a LEFT onto Lyons Avenue.

Go up four lights. The fourth light should be Aldine Street and there should be a playground on your left. Aldine is one-way the wrong way, but the school is on your left. Go up one more block and make the first left you can make after the light at Aldine Street. This is Clinton Place. (Do not go up to the next (5th) traffic light - then you have gone too far)

From the Garden State Parkway North, take Exit 143.
Make a LEFT off of the exit.
 
Go to the first light (Kentucky Fried Chicken on your right) and make a RIGHT onto LYONS AVENUE.
 
Go up 8 lights (about 1 mile).
 
After third light you will cross railroad tracks.
 
After fifth light you will have crossed I-78.
 
Then you will go 3 more lights.

Go to Exit 143B (Lyons Avenue/Hillside/Irvington) on the Parkway.
 
At the light at the end of the exit make a RIGHT and go to the very next light.
 
THIS IS LYONS AVENUE.
 
Make a RIGHT at this light ONTO LYONS Avenue
 
Go up 9 lights about 1 1/2 mile
After fourth light you will cross railroad tracks
After sixth light you will have crossed I-78
