Tuesday I shot an email off to streetrodparts4u,
the people on eBay Motors that I bought my headers from, and told them of
the problem I was having. I didn't get a reply by Wednesday afternoon, so I
wrote another email to them. This time I informed them that I would be
contacting eBay and PayPal, if I didn't get a response.
Thursday morning streetrodparts4u replied by
saying, "This is the first that we have ever heard them not working. We
sell 100's of these. They fit every 305 with stock heads for twenty years with
NO PROBLEM. thanks" I replied saying that was good news, but they still
weren't fitting on MY 305 and I attached a photo also. It doesn't look like I'll
be getting any cooperation from them, so I decided to go out and clean up the
stock exhaust manifolds. Just in case. They were in pretty bad shape and it took
me a good part of the day to get them to where I was satisfied.
This morning rolled around and I still haven't heard from streetrodparts4u
about the headers. I sent another email and photo, but it looks as though it's
all for not. It looks like I'm going to have to really contact eBay Motors and
PayPal and see what they can do for me. Either that, save them for another
project. It's a bummer too, because I saw more
parts I wanted to purchase from them. But in the meantime I figured I better get
some paint on the exhaust manifolds.
| This morning the only cleaning I did was to remove what carbon build up I could from the inside of the manifolds. After that I had to figure out how I wanted to spray them. Lacking a paint booth, (No not in the shed, I can see a disaster), I took the rig I used to hoist the engine with and propped it up against the shed, sitting it into a cinder block. With a couple of nails and coat hangers I was ready to spray. | |
| I was able to get three coats of Duplicolor's High Heat on before I ran out of paint. In between each coat, I allowed it to tack up and then took my propane torch to it. I'm not able to bake on the enamel right, but this gets the job done. I must say it was a pretty good one at that! |
I'm currently looking for sponsorship, so if anyone of you or these fine merchant's would like to contribute please let me know.
