Jana Hicks, a native of Texas, holds a BFA in dance from Southern Methodist University where she received the Meadows Outstanding Performer Award. While in Texas she danced with Dancers Unlimited Repertory Co., Citijazz, Meadows Repertory Dance, The Dallas Opera, and performed the works of choreographers such as Toni Beck, Eddie Burgess, Mathew Diamond, Judith Jamison, Bill T. Jones, Parker/Pucci, Ross Parks, Moses Pendleton of MOMIX, Bertram Ross, and Max Stone.

Following an invitation to apprentice with the Jose Limon Company, Jana moved to New York in 1990 and has since performed with a wide variety of companies and choreographers including Max Stone's E-Motion, David Storey Danceworks, Extended Dance Co., Sans Nemo Collective, Soundance Repertory, Verlezza Dance, Laurie DeVito & Dancers, Elyse Wright Dancers, American Dance Ensemble, Ariel Herrera's Fishmongers, Linda Nutter & Co., and Unconfined Movement among others. Jana was a member of The Kevin Wynn Collection from 1995 - 2005.

Jana's choreography has been commissioned by New York companies: Janessa Clark/Kilterbox, Stephanie Harris Dance Collective, Off Center Dance Theater, The Next Stage Project, New York Summer Dance Intensive, and regional companies: New Articulations (Arizona), Arts Magnet Repertory (Dallas), Houston Met (Houston), The Divine Project (New Hampshire), Mack Avenue Dance Company (Detroit), The Jordan Center for Performing Arts (Ohio), and Shenandoah University (West Virginia). International commissions include Fontys Dance Academy (Tilburg), Dimovi (Amsterdam), Portella Dance (Rio de Janeiro), Montreal Moves Dance Co. (Canada), Moga Dance (Japan), and Vlad's Dance Company (Toronto, Canada). Works have been showcased at City Center Studios, by City Center Ballet Arts' the 6th Floor, Dance Now at Joyce Soho, SWEAT, Unconfined Movement, the Evolving Arts Theater, Broadway Dance Center Performance Outlet, Steps on Broadway, and The Dance Gallery at the Ailey Citigroup Theater. Jana has taught Master Classes and Workshops in the US and abroad including Brazil, Belgium, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, The Netherlands, Norway, Sweden, Switzerland, Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Hawaii, Maryland, Michigan, New Hampshire, Ohio, Texas, and Virginia.
